Baskets with Nature's Treasures

Transforming Found Beach Bones into Handles for Baskets

Each basket tells a story, capturing the essence of Tribune Bay, Hornby Island where the materials were found and reimagined. The intricate weaving of natural fibres combined with the unique charm of beach bone handles results in more than just a functional item; it becomes a piece of art that reflects my connection to the earth. By embracing the imperfections and organic shapes of these treasures, I created not only beautiful baskets but also a conversation starter about sustainability and creativity. This is an invitation to cherish the beauty of the environment and to witness how discarded elements of nature can be transformed into cherished creations that echo the whispers of the sea.

The Art of Nature Inspired Baskets

Incorporating found bones into baskets not only enhances creativity but also fosters a deeper appreciation for nature. These unique materials provide a sustainable way to create art while respecting the environment. By using bones collected from the beach, we celebrate the natural cycle of life and transform it into beautiful, functional art pieces. My approach encourages a mindful connection with nature, inspiring others to see the artistic potential in natural elements.

Bone Handle Preparation

The most effective method I discovered for cleaning bones involves placing them on an ant hill where, over the course of roughly six months, the ants meticulously remove the flesh and facilitate natural decomposition.
